Not your standard backyard makeover: Though the backyard was a standard rectangle with a lawn and a fence, the pool and spa addition are anything but ordinary. The outdoor kitchen and stone seat walls extend the use of the existing patio, while a sunken seating area complete with stone firepit takes advantage of the natural grade change to put visitors right at water’s edge. Boulders add an unexpected dimension to the pool edge and native trees along the fence are reflected in the water while performing a much needed screening role. Colorful planting pockets skip along a meandering flagstone path and divide connected spaces into a series of outdoor rooms. A custom trellis roof over the spa allows comfortable year round use and a plethora of seating spaces gives opportunity for entertaining large groups while still maintaining a feeling of intimacy. Warm comfort from the night lighting and the firepit authenticate the mood and extend the useable hours of the garden.
