Log Cabin Inn

Posted in Housing & Master Planning

This historic resort along the McKenzie River was built in the stage coach era. With several old cabins in need of replacement, the owners asked us to rethink the grounds. Then a fire destroyed the main inn, and the project expanded into a full master plan for a new resort. In collaboration with an architect, we sited new cabins in clusters to take best advantage of the views while having a light impact on the riparian environment. The necessary fire access was achieved with what appears as a footpath, rather than a full-fledged road. Utility services were tucked into natural spaces, away from the river, to minimize environmental impacts. Our work included public meetings, land use planning and master planning.
