Sheldon Village

Posted in Housing & Master Planning

The goal for this housing development in north Eugene was to make it feel like a small village within the city. Working integrally with architects David Edrington and Bergsund/Delaney and the Housing and Community Services Agency of Lane County, we struck on the idea of long, narrow buildings with alleys between them, echoing an old European village. Parking is spread out along the perimeter, so there is no single large parking lot. The inner spaces are filled with strolling paths, portals, garden terraces, and alleys and open spaces where children can play. We helped arrive at the decision to build taller buildings, which allowed density requirements to be met with one fewer building than expected, so we had room for a large park area.
